October 2016 Tongariro river Fishing Report

Lake otamangakau 9lb rainbow trout

29 October 2016

The season here in paradise is as good as ever although we have had our share of rain the fishing especially now is very very good with some of the best local action happening now. There are some very good sized fish around, and this is because of the smelt doing very well in Lake Taupo so should see some very good fishing right through the summer and if the cicada action last year is anything to go off it will be magic again this season.

We couldn't go back country on opening day because of the weather so we fished Lake Otamangakau and straight away Shaun landed a magnificent 9lbs rainbow 70cm long an awesome fish that took our magic snail pattern.

The back country now that the rain has settled down is fishing very good with some real good fish been landed on dry flies a great option from now until christmas before the crowds arrive.

Lake Otamangakau - also fishing well with fish definitely bigger than normal for the start of the season again very good fishing from now till christmas. We are averaging between 10 and 20 fish a day at the moment so for those wanting to land that really big fish is a must so give us a call

Tongariro River - Has fished great and is still fishing good especially the top of the river and expect fresh run fish for a while yet and of course the evening rise is just starting to fire up something not to be missed.

Tauranga Taupo River - Been a great year for the TT and is fishing real well at the moment with very high numbers of fish through out the river and still lots of fish at the river mouth so still plenty of fresh fish still to come.

Lake Taupo - fishing very good and the jigging starting to fire up already. The smelt look good and very big so looking like another big year for the great Lake

Don't forget those looking at helifishing book early as blocks are already getting booked out.
